Wales – Paul Weller
Saturday 30th – Sunday 31st July 2022
Day 1
A not too early start and we headed off to Wales in glorious sunshine and clear blue skies, however the closer to Wales we got, the cloudier and darker the skies got, the rain started and the roof had to go up!
A fairly uneventful drive, with no wrong turns until right at the very end when Steve missed one – no road trip is complete without at least one wrong turn or missed junction!
We arrived at the hotel and were more than a little surprised to discover it was a golf club! Upon checking hotels.com we confirmed there was no mention of golf at all so it wasn’t an oversight on our part. After asking in the golf shop we were directed to into the club and up to the bar to check in and get the key.
The room was pretty basic with narrow twin beds – such a romantic set up!! The view from the room was our standard car park view but at least had a golf course behind it!
We were 5mins drive from Sian and Adey’s accommodation which was equally odd, being half of a house and not enough beds for them all!
Vikki and Sian caught up over Prosecco and red wine while Steve and Adey donned their wigs and set about filming a sketch which involved learning welsh and spitting at each other!
We walked down to the beach front for dinner at a French place, which much to the disgust of Steve and Adey had no IPAs so they had to make do with lager! We had a really good meal, defeated by pudding before walking back. The rain started while we were eating and didn’t stop so Steve was sporting a rather fetching ‘theme park poncho’ look!!
After dinner we headed to a traditional oldie pub for a couple of drinks next to a very loud live musician with a collection of saxophones. It had a very impressive gin shelf including a peach Whitley Neill which Vikki just had to sample before a very long walk back to the hotel.
We got back to the hotel and had a drink in the golf club bar, opting to have the front bar to ourselves rather than join the louder back bar which was full of golfers before heading to our room for our romantic night in twin beds!
Day 2
After a not very great nights sleep on beds that resembled school PE benches with what felt like towels for duvets we headed over for breakfast at the golf club where there were quite a few golfers fuelling up for the day! The coffee was not very nice and very watery but the cooked breakfast wasn’t too bad.
We headed back to Adey and Sian’s place and headed to the marina, we got a decent coffee and with a lovely view of the boats and then headed to the maritime museum where we spent an hour or so – let’s just say the general consensus was that it was just as well it was free entry!!
After a quick lunch stop, Vikki wasn’t feeling well so chilled out for a couple of hours while Steve and Adey went off filming and Steve did a bit of Parkore!!
The sun came out in time for the outdoor evening performance of Paul Weller but we headed off a little later than planned as we stayed back to watch the England ladies football team win the Euros 2-1 in extra time – woohoo!
Expensive parking, lots of people, Adey annoying someone by standing in front of them and we saw about half the Paul Weller concert before heading off on the long drive home.
