Boston USA 🇺🇸

Day 1

Long, uneventful flight (standard) and we finally touched down in Boston – cue tired legs and puffy faces. Checked into a very lovely hotel with even lovelier views and, to our surprise, a glorious burst of sunshine. We flirted with the idea of a swim… until we saw the human soup in the pool and swiftly aborted mission.

Instead, we headed out for a wander and some food. Let’s just say we did not hit the jackpot. Vikki’s chicken was so spicy it needed a fire extinguisher, and Steve’s burger had all the flavour of damp cardboard. Not ideal. Back to the hotel, round two with the pool – started calm, ended in a high-stakes game of “Dodge the Child.” Jet lag creeping in fast, so off to bed.

Day 2

Started the day trying to activate 3 SIM cards – an adventure in itself. Pro tip: activate them before you leave the UK. Who knew? The bed was dreamy, sleep was solid (minus Steve accidentally whacking Vikki awake at 6:30am – what a wake-up call).

Coffee in bed sounded nice… until it became coffee on the bed. Never mind, we mopped it up and headed downstairs for a breakfast that totally redeemed the day. Fuelled up and ready to go, we jumped on the Hop-on Hop-off bus to soak in the Boston vibes. Hopped off for a stroll in the park, more coffee, and a visit to the Cheers bar – where literally everyone did not know our name.

Stopped by the Boston Tea Party Museum (history! rebellion! floating ships!) before grabbing a little lunch. Trolley ride back into town, followed by a bit of shopping – highlight: Vikki’s essential Bertie Bees lip balm, lowlight: spotting a handbag that cost $2,300 and some chocolate that required a mortgage.

Chilled at the hotel, then out for dinner – much quieter, much tastier. Vikki had a rice bowl with steak, Steve tackled a lasagna. Nightcap at the Yard House before crashing out. Much improved food day all round.

Day 3

Slow start with another yummy hotel breakfast and a cheeky Starbucks for the road. Housekeeping were a bit too enthusiastic rushing us to pack and leave.

Checked out and hopped on the train to Harvard. Took a scenic stroll to the Business School and the stadium, then back over the river. Jumped back on the train and headed up the Prudential Tower for some of the best views Boston could offer – not a single cloud in the sky. Absolutely stunning.

Enjoyed a final drink in the sunshine at the top of the tower before collecting our bags and catching a taxi to our second hotel, ready for the work part of the trip to begin. Sad times. But hey, at least we got to play tourist first.

Mini Summary:

What started as a work trip turned into a mini Boston bonanza, cramming in historic sights, rooftop views, and a lot of fun.
