Bath
Saturday 15th – Sunday 16th January 2022
After a brief trip to the home renovation show in Farnborough we headed off to Bath for our first adventure of 2022!
Day 1
Fairly uneventful drive with only one missed turn as Steve was too busy concentrating on Rylan’s couch potato quiz! We arrived at the hotel (where pretty much no-one was wearing masks) and got settled in our room.
Big and spacious with an incredibly high bed, interesting curtains, manky chairs and a rather quirky sink by the bed! On the plus side a lovely cafetière and ground coffee, yummy biscuits and mint chocolates on the pillows.
Dinner was nice although the dance music being played throughout the restaurant was an unusual choice. Steve realised he hadn’t packed his toiletries bag so had nothing with him meaning after dinner we did an emergency dash to Tesco for the essentials before finishing the night off with a drink at the The Stables (a naughty single glass of wine and beer during dry January).
Day 2
The bed was super super soft so not the greatest night sleep but it made a huge difference having a yummy coffee in bed instead of the normal instant in hotels.

We enjoyed breakfast at a lovely window table overlooking the garden, Steve had a fry up which included “boiled sweaty slugs”, otherwise know as mushrooms and on this occasion Steve’s opinion of them was the same as Vikki’s always is!!
We checked out after breakfast and headed to the centre of Bath for some exploring, first stop was going round the Roman baths. Turned out to be much, much bigger than we were expecting it to be and really interesting but because it took so long we missed the chance to go round the Abby.
We saw fresh fudge being made and Vikki tried some, although it was like being smacked in the face with neat sugar so we didn’t buy any!!
As we’d missed the chance to go into the Abby we went for a walk along the river and through Parade Gardens then had some lunch at Bills (which was nice but super slow service which resulted in free drinks and desserts) before heading off in search of curved buildings!!
After all the sightseeing we were more than ready for our 2 hour relaxing session at the Thermae Spa followed by all over body candle was massages. Two hours of lounging in pools, jacuzzis, steam rooms, ice room (not quite so enjoyable) plus a coffee and cake was a fantastic couple of hours and a very relaxing massage completed the day before a drive home with chilled out music, clear skies, a full moon and many many stars.
