Genesis

Monday 20th September 2021

Thanks to covid and multiple reschedules the nice weekend away with a Saturday night concert became a long day trip on a Monday but we finally made it to see Genesis.

We headed off late morning for the drive up to Brimingham, it was a beautiful sunny day, perfect blue car weather so the drive, which ended up taking about 3.5 hours, could have been a lot worse!

A few near miss turns, Steve nearly taking us to a park and ride, a diversion to avoid a standstill on the motorway and we got there about 3.30pm. Parked up at the Bullring and thought we’d go for a walk to work out where we needed to be later before doing a spot of shopping.

45mins and a grand walking tour of central Birmingham later and we decided to move the car to the car park next to the Arena so we didn’t have the 25min walk back to it after the concert.

No time for shopping so we headed to The Gourmet Burger restaurant for some food instead. A short wait and we had a lovely table outside. A bit of people watching and we spotted many many ‘older’ men wearing vintage Genesis t-shirts…it ws at this point Vikki started feeling quite young!

Food was good (except Vikki’s unless burger was a tad on the plain side and we had to argue for the coleslaw and salad it was meant to come with!) and we headed to the Arena. Big queue to get in, but we had our Covid vaccine pass ready for access and got in easily, drinks purchased (sadly alcohol free Brewdog for the driver!) and found our seats.

The concert was good, not many empty seats so a great atmosphere. Phil Collins wasn’t on his top form but he definitely got better as the performance went on and considering they did a nearly 2.5hour set with no break you can’t complain. Only slight disappointment was that they didn’t play Jesus He Knows Me.

Very uneventful drive home (which Vikki slept the majority of) and we were back at Vikki’s just before 1am.
