Thanks to train strikes getting to the concert by train wasn’t an option so we drove. We decided to make more of a day of it with a stop in past Osterley Park national trust venue, although it was such a scorching hot day we spent most of the time there eating ice cream and hiding out in the shade! Oh and ended up going on a pretty long walk which turned out to not be particularly flipflop friendly!
We headed into London and the roads became familiar to Steve, he kept announcing the name of the roads…although someone more suspicious could have thought he was just reading the road names off the Apple map!
First time for both of us at Wembley so we didn’t really know what was around, found loads and loads of dinner options…all with equally huge, long queues of people! We decided to go for a chicken and burger place, only to be told mid queue there had been an unprecedented amount of chicken ordered and they had ran completely out of chicken!
However very shortly after that they opened the entire upstairs of the restaurant so despite being very near the back of a big queue we got in, seated and soon had cold beer and wine before very yummy burgers and fries.
We then headed for the red zone, because Vikki was sure it was the red zone…turns out it was the blue zone so we had a nice tour around the outside of the stadium to get to the entrance we needed to go to! Once inside we had an even longer tour to find a water filling station that didn’t have a queue longer than the food restaurants outside.
Water bottles filled, beer and blue lagoon (aka alcoholic blue slushy) purchased and we found our seats. OMG the stadium was enormous and the atmosphere was amazing.
Stadium wide Mexican waves, amazing LED wristband effects, absolutely outstanding performance from Coldplay and a surprise guest appearance from Craig David made for the most amazing and memorable evening.
We won’t mention the couple that wouldn’t sit down or the guy who poured his wife’s drink down Vikki’s leg…
