A fun and busy day visiting a couple of places for Steve to learn more about his grandfather for a video he’s making, finished off with some shopping and beautiful views.

Royal Victoria Country park

We spent some time wandering round the park trying to imagine quite how immensely big the Netley Military Hospital, that Steve grandfather had been a patient in, must have been.

The abbey is now open to the public so we looked round it, then climbed the 109 steps to get to the top.

Once at the top, as well as enjoying the views, we learned a lot from the volunteer there and Steve deafened us all by ringing the bell!

Hayling Island

After Royal Victoria Park we drove down to Sinah Heavy Anti-Aircraft Battery on Hayling Island to see where Steve’s grandfather was when the Germans attacked in April 1941.

Spinnaker Tower

After Hayling Island we headed to Gun Wharf Quays shopping centre on a mission to buy jeans (which was successful for Steve, not so for Vikki). However the visit turned into being less shopping and more fun with a trip up Spinnaker Tower followed by a yummy lunch sat in the sun.

Thanks to the beautiful sunny day we got amazing views from the top of the tower.

The downside of the sun meant it was more than a little hot in the glass surrounded area at the top.

The child in Steve couldn’t resist the photo opportunity of getting Vikki to lie down on the glass floor!

Oh and while abseiling down the tower looked fun, it didn’t look £100 per person fun so needless to say we won’t be doing that!
